Introduction to counterpoint

  • Counterpoint can be defined as when one note is against another note in cantus firmus
  • Cantus firmus is a line that cannot be changed
  • A melodic Line that moves step by step is conjunct
  • A meodic line that moves leap by leap is disjunct
  • Counterpoints can move in motions :parallel,similar,contrary,oblique
  • Some Rules of Counterpoint are as follows:
  1. no repeated notes 
  2. No Arpeggios
  3. No accidentals in a major scales
